California Wyndham hotel operator files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

While major analytics firms like Costar and Amadeus Hospitality are reporting major surges in hotel bookings across the U.S. in 2026 (11.4 million more rooms sold in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year), specific circumstances in a given market can spell doom for an individual property even when the industry is doing well overall.

The historic Hotel Charlotte near Yosemite National Park filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the Eastern District of California in July 2026 while the Rushmore Hotel & Suites resort in Rapid City, which is the main hotel used by overnight visitors to Mount Rushmore, also filed for bankruptcy protection in the Southern District of Florida in August 2026.

In Miami Beach, two resorts filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy within a few weeks of each other in March 2026 while the former operator of the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel in North Carolina also filed for Chapter 11 protection this September.

MK Phoenix Airport LLC, company behind La Quinta Inn & Suites in Anaheim, files for Chapter 11 protection

According to documents published by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, MK Phoenix Airport LLC filed for Chapter 11 protection in the court on Oct. 8.

Despite the reference to Phoenix in its name and base in Arizona, the limited liability company is the operator behind only the La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Anaheim in California. The company is also not related to aviation despite the word “airport” in its name.

The court filing reports that the company has between $10 million to $50 million in assets and as much in liabilities. In the filing, MK Phoenix Airport LLC says that it will have no available funds to pay unsecured creditors after administrative expenses related to the lawsuit.

Further information beyond that, including whether the company plans to restructure or shut down and what led it to a financial situation in which it was forced to file for bankruptcy, is currently not publicly available. Wyndham could not be immediately reached for comment, but the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Anaheim is marked as “permanently closed” on Google.

What is happening with the La Quinta Inn & Suites near Disneyland

The last guest reviews show that the hotel was operating in early 2026. The property is located approximately a 15-minute walk from the Disneyland resort and served as an option for budget-friendly accommodation for park visitors since it first opened in 1992.

The Wyndham page for the property now also redirects to a broken link although much of the situation remains mired in mystery.

More Travel News:

Local Yorba Linda attorney Ashishkumar Patel is listed as representing MK Phoenix Airport LLC in the bankruptcy.

The Wyndham hotel group behind the individual property is listed as the main creditor to which La Quinta Inn & Suites owes the largest debt while other creditors include the City of Anaheim and engineering and construction providers, as well as state and federal tax authorities.
