Where to watch US shows in the UK

Whether you’re a US citizen spending time in the UK and missing your favorite TV shows or a UK citizen with a fetish for American programming, you’re going to want to know the best ways to watch US shows in the UK.

Fortunately for you, we’ve done all the research. So read on to learn how you can get US programming in the UK.

Netflix

This popular streaming service needs no introduction. As you’re no doubt aware, Netflix produces a constant stream of original films and TV shows as well as existing content, including popular US shows.

The cost of a basic Netflix subscription in the UK is £5.99 for video streaming at 480p; however, for the best viewing experience, you should opt for the £9.99 option to get full HD streaming at 1080p.

Additionally, if you have a 4K TV or screen, you’d be best served by subscribing to Netflix Premium for £13.99. The premium subscription lets you use up to four devices to view in 4K and enables you to download shows to your mobile devices.

Hayu

Specifically created to offer viewers with US-based reality TV programs, Hayu has a catalog of more than 6500 episodes from 250 reality TV shows. Plus, you can view episodes on the same day as they air in the US.

You can get a free 30-day trial of this streaming service, and then the monthly cost is £4.99. However, if you purchase the service Hayu as an add-on for NowTV or Amazon Prime Video, you’ll save £1 per month.

Plex

A global streaming media service and a client-server media player platform, Plex lets users stream video, audio, and photos from their collections and stream movies, TV shows, and over 180 live TV channels instantly, without a subscription.

In addition to providing TV shows and movies, Plex also offers 24 free news channels, including Newsy, USA Today, Euronews, Reuters TV, and People TV. Additionally, you can watch top local news sources from most US markets.

Plex is free; however, it does offer a premium version, Plex Pass. Plex Pass provides you with offline downloads on your mobile device and gives you a live TV DVR. The monthly cost for Plex Pass is £4 per month, £32 per year, or £95 for a lifetime subscription.

Disney+

Despite being a newer streaming service, Disney+ has already made its mark in the industry. Offering a great family-friendly catalog, the basic Disney+ subscription packages offer you access to four simultaneous streams and offline downloads.

At the moment, this platform doesn’t have a lot of original content, but it does offer films and TV shows from Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and National Geographic.

You can stream Disney+ shows on most web browsers, iOS, and Android devices, as well as most smart TVs and dongles.

Currently, the service costs £7.99 per month. However, if you choose the annual payment option of £79.90, you’ll save 15% on the monthly price.

Now TV

Depending on your membership, Now TV offers up to 11 channels and access to some Sky channels without the necessity of a satellite dish.

The service has five different forms; Entertainment, Kids, Hayu, Sky, and Cinema. Additionally, you don’t need a NOW TV Smart Box or Smart Stick to get the platform. After you subscribe, Now TV is available on any smart device. Nonetheless, if you purchase a NOW TV Stick (powered by Roku), you can pause and rewind live TV and turn your regular TV into a smart TV that supports additional streaming services.

The basic cost for the NOW TV Entertainment subscription is £9.99 and includes the Sky One, Comedy Central, and HBO channels.

Apple TV+

Launched in 2019, Apple TV+ offers an ad-free service with high-quality original content. Although shows like Ted Lasso have brought this platform acclaim, their catalog is still limited compared with more established providers. That being said, it only costs £4.99 per month. Furthermore, you don’t need the Apple TV box to use this streaming service; however, the streaming device offers both HDR video and Dolby Atmos sound.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon’s version of an online streaming service, Prime Video, is included in the wide array of services included in the Prime subscription.

Amazon offers original content as well as existing movies and TV shows. Additionally, you can add subscriptions (for a fee) for a greater mix of content and live channels.

Prime Video content is available on any smart device; however, if you want full Alexa integration and 4K capabilities, it’s recommended that you get the Fire TV Stick.

The cost for Amazon Prime Video is £7.99 per month.
