The importance of technology in education

Technology in the last couple of years has changed and impacted a lot of things. Everything is gradually getting digitized.

The world has come a long way, and it can only keep better. In recent times, sectors like banking, agriculture, business, and many others have benefited from the technology, and education isn’t left out.

The importance of technology cannot be overemphasized. The teaching model in the traditional classroom, both high school and university, hasn’t changed much since medieval times. It’s still the same style, having a room with chairs, students learning while facing a podium in front of the class with a teacher lecturing. However, the difference between then and now is that there is the advent of technology. This has brought ease, convenience as well as other benefits we would be exploring such as:

Easy access to information

Before now, students would spend a good deal of time searching through archives or libraries to find answers or materials to study. This time spent could be used to achieve other important things or even develop skills. However, with almost everything being accessible through the Internet, students can now use Google or another search engine and artificial intelligence to locate the data they need. As a result, the learning environment transforms into an online environment that offers knowledge in various ways, making learning a less cumbersome process.

With this development, students have a deeper comprehension of their work, studying more effectively. This process, however, is heavily dependent on tools such as a fast Internet connection, reliable Wi-Fi, and an intelligent device, either a laptop, tablet or mobile phone. The absence of this then means that there is a shortage or they get cut off in a way, and this is why many institutions go to considerable lengths to ensure that every one of their kids has a computer and the Internet.

Online learning

A few years ago, the mere thought of not being physically present in a class to learn was simply impossible. But now, learning styles provide students and teachers with the opportunity to do schooling from the comfort of their homes. The Internet has tremendously changed modern communication, even in high school and primary.

A hike in online schooling was seen in 2020 during the global pandemic. Just as discussed in the essay about technology by PapersOwl, schools had to shut down. Still, teaching had to continue, and this led to teachers using applications such as Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams as more people embraced remote schooling.

Before the pandemic, there was distance learning, primarily for advanced levels or higher education. People may not only attend schools that are physically situated in another part of the world through online education, but they can also work and study. Many educational institutions, for example, have acknowledged the necessity of technology and have made it possible for students to attend online courses, take examinations, and work on projects whenever it is convenient for them. As a result, a higher number of individuals have access to high-quality education.

Better communication

Communication between students and between teachers and students before now was hundred by the lack of a medium. Communication and collaborative efforts had to be limited to within the school district except if you were neighbors. Educational technology helps students collaborate to solve challenges via online classes. Students may share their views and ideas and encourage one another in collaborative tasks. In the same vein, technology allows students to communicate with teachers directly and ask questions about what they’re assimilating. This sometimes proves as an ethical dilemma in teaching process, but it is also undeniable that they are getting extra support with subjects that are tough to grasp.

Better learning opportunities

Integrating technology intuition is undeniably obvious, especially when it comes to developing critical thinking and learning opportunities. Students may express themselves in several ways thanks to various instructional methodologies, leading to a range of results. In this process, they take knowledge carefully, evaluating every available data to arrive at the desired result.

Textbooks and notebooks have been replaced with tablets, videos, animations, the Internet, audio recordings, collages, and other media. This allows even timid students or those who have difficulties working in groups to make an attempt to learn, shine, and achieve higher results by enabling them to communicate in the most comfortable and relevant way.

The future of technology in education

It is relatively straightforward that technology will play a significant role in almost every area of our lives in the few years to come. According to World Economic Forum research, 65% of youngsters entering primary school will work in jobs that do not exist today.

By 2020, 1.5 million new digital jobs are expected to be generated throughout the world. Simultaneously, 90% of companies are suffering an IT skill shortage, and 75% of educators and students say they cannot meet the IT profession’s skill needs. To produce the talent necessary for the digital economy, education must adapt at the same rate as the demand for IT increases and advances.

Conclusion

The future of education, as well as other sectors, looks bright. With more advancements, such as virtual reality, more beneficial changes will provide educational resources and an even better learning experience for students. The method of classroom instruction might not change, but many aspects of it would for the better.
