Oklo Jumped 7.2% on a Google Nuclear Deal It Is Not Part Of

Oklo closed at $38.55, up 7.17%, as investors extended a Google power agreement with Constellation Energy across nuclear-related stocks. The Google and Constellation agreement does not name Oklo, buy power from its planned reactors or finance one of its projects. The move was a sector reaction to another technology company paying for nuclear capacity. It supports the demand side of Oklo’s investment case, but it does not reduce the company’s licensing, construction or fuel risks. The distinction matters because Constellation will extract more power from operating reactors while Oklo is still working toward its first commercial Aurora powerhouse.

What Google and Constellation Signed

Google agreed to a 20-year power purchase arrangement supporting 890 megawatts of new nuclear capacity on the PJM grid. Constellation plans to invest more than $4.3 billion in equipment and technology at 11 operating reactor units across six sites in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The capacity will come from uprates, which increase output from existing plants through equipment and efficiency improvements. Delivery is planned in phases from 2028 through 2032.

That model is materially different from Oklo’s. Constellation has an operating fleet, current cash flow and reactors connected to the grid. FinanceFeeds’ Constellation analysis examined how long-term technology-company contracts can convert merchant generation into contracted revenue.

890 MW and 2,700 MW Are Two Different Contracts

Coverage describing a 3,590-megawatt nuclear deal combines two agreements. Only 890 megawatts represent new nuclear output from reactor uprates under the 20-year arrangement.

The additional 2,700 megawatts come from a separate 15-year supply agreement covering Constellation’s existing generation in PJM. The company did not identify all of that supply as nuclear. Adding both contracts produces 3,590 megawatts of contracted power, but it does not produce 3,590 megawatts of new nuclear capacity.

The structure responds to PJM’s effort to make large new electricity users support additional supply.

Why Oklo Rallied With the Nuclear Group

Constellation closed 12.25% higher at $300.40. Vistra rose 10.77%, Talen Energy gained about 12.4%, NRG Energy added 7.05%, NuScale advanced 4.29% and several uranium names also climbed. Oklo’s 7.17% gain came on volume of about 16.7 million shares, more than twice the previous session’s volume.

The rally priced a broad conclusion: technology companies will sign long contracts and fund projects to secure electricity for data centres. That is relevant to Oklo because its strategy targets the same buyers. It is not evidence that revenue from the Google deal will reach Oklo.

The difference between operating generators and developers remains central to the AI-power trade. Constellation and Vistra sell electricity today. Oklo and NuScale remain longer-dated reactor bets whose value depends on future deployment.

What Oklo Still Has to Deliver

Oklo’s latest quarterly filing says its Aurora design is intended to produce 15 to 75 megawatts, with larger versions possible. The company targets its first powerhouse at Idaho National Laboratory in 2028, but describes that schedule as ambitious given design, supply-chain, construction and economic challenges.

The Department of Energy has approved the project’s Nuclear Safety Design Agreement and Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis. Those are two steps in the federal pathway, not authorization to begin commercial operation. The latest FinanceFeeds review of Oklo found no disclosed startup authorization for Aurora.

Oklo reported $3.006 billion of cash, equivalents and marketable debt securities at the end of June. It generated $1.21 million of first-half revenue and recorded a $48.54 million second-quarter net loss. Its Meta agreement supports development of a planned 1.2-gigawatt Ohio campus, while fuel deliveries contemplated in a Centrus letter of intent would begin in 2029 if a definitive contract is signed.

An insider filing did not alter that operating picture. Vivek Narayanadas, General Counsel and Secretary at Oklo, sold 649 shares for $23,319 to cover tax withholding after restricted shares vested. The filing explicitly says it was not a discretionary sale. A separate notice covered a proposed sale of 288 shares under instructions adopted in April.

The AI-Power Trade Is Funding Existing Reactors First

The Google contract followed a conditional Energy Department loan offer of up to $4.2 billion for Vistra’s nuclear fleet. The financing could preserve nearly four gigawatts and add 433 megawatts through uprates in Pennsylvania and Ohio. FinanceFeeds covered why the Vistra package favours operating plants that can add capacity faster than new reactors.

For Oklo, that is both validation and competition. Rising demand strengthens the commercial case for firm nuclear power, but utilities can unlock meaningful capacity without waiting for a new reactor design. Oklo’s rally says investors believe the addressable market is expanding. The Google agreement itself changes none of the milestones Oklo must meet before that demand becomes electricity sales.
