Another airline shut down accident, all flights off

In the summer of 2026, several smaller airlines have suffered fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of life and suspension of their operating licenses.

On July 10, a Cessna 402 plane operated by Bahamian carrier Flamingo Air crashed into the bushes on Andros Island in an accident that took the lives of all nine passengers and the pilot on board. Pending a regulatory investigation into the accident’s cause, the airline remains grounded and its air operator’s certificate (AOC) suspended.

In Peru, a similar accident occurred when a Caravan C-208 plane operated by tourist carrier Aerodiana crashed four miles from the Nazca Lines archeological site, which many tourists specifically come to the region to see. The accident claimed the lives of all 11 people on board.

K2 Airways not running flights after fatal July crash, expired insurance

In the South Asian nation of Pakistan, a flight operated by Karachi-based cargo airline K2 Airways crashed into the Arabian Sea on July 7 after a failure of the aircraft’s navigation systems, Flight Radar 24 reported.

Data recovered from the black boxes showed that the Boeing 737-4M0 plane picked up altitude prior to a sudden drop-off before contact with the aircraft was lost.

After several weeks of trying to find bodies amid the plane wreckage, all five crew members who were on the flight are presumed dead.

The latest reporting on the July crash is that the owners of K2 Airways had let their insurance expire several weeks before the accident, according to The Express Tribune. The insurance certificate was issued in June 2025 and expired on June 25, 2026, while the accident occurred just under two weeks later on July 7.

When approached by local journalists for comment, representatives of Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that it had issued an AOC to K2 Airways but did not answer questions on how the airline was able to continue to operate without accident insurance, saying all documents have been submitted to the regulators conducting the probe.

K2 Airways is a Pakistani airline running exclusively cargo flights.
